Bitou Municipality launched the new regulations for dogs on beaches this month. All beaches in Bitou will now be classified as GREEN (dogs allowed off leash), ORANGE (dogs allowed on leash) and RED (no dogs allowed). The zoning is based on where blue flag beaches are (no dogs allowed), where bird breeding hotspots are, and where dogs can safely be let off leash with minimal impact to the environment. We believe this is a win-win solution to the long-standing fight about where dogs should and shouldn’t be allowed on beaches. Bitou will be enforcing it, and from now on there is no excuse – dogs are catered for, just stick to the right zones. Beach entrances will have information boards explaining the location of zones to you, and transition boards will be on beaches, as you change from one zone to another.
